Cataract Surgery

Cataract surgery is typically a brief procedure in which your aging lens is gently removed and replaced with a clear artificial lens. Our surgeons are experienced in state of the art small incision, sutureless cataract surgery using the technique of phacoemulsification, in which your cataract is removed through a microscopic incision.

The eye, like a camera, requires a lens to focus light. This lens loses its clarity as we get older. When this happens, we experience blurred vision and difficulty with glare and night vision.

Are there any risks with cataract surgery?

All surgery has some risk. However, cataract surgery is a low risk procedure. You and your loved ones will have the opportunity to meet with Dr. Kuntz or Dr. Patel prior to your surgery to discuss the procedure and your individual needs and issues.

Will I see better right away?

Your vision may be improved within a day or two of surgery, but this is variable. You will achieve your best vision when you get your final glasses prescription.

Will I need glasses after my surgery?

Your best near and far vision will be achieved with glasses, and most people require glasses for reading small print. However, many patients can perform various activities such as driving or watching television without glasses after surgery.

Will I be able to return to my primary eye care provider after surgery?

Your eye care will be temporarily transferred to your surgeon. Dr. Kuntz or Dr. Patel will return you to the care of your primary eye care provider at a mutually agreeable time.

How do I set up an appointment for a surgical evaluation?
