Endocrinology and Metabolism
The endocrine system plays a role in many of the body’s processes: reproduction, bone health, growth and development, sleep patterns, metabolism, digestion, mood, movement and more. The endocrine system encompasses several glands and the hormones that they secrete. You can think of hormones as chemical messages that instruct the behavior of various organs or systems in the body.
If you’ve been diagnosed with symptoms of an endocrine issue, our Endocrinology department will walk you through any needed exams, tests and treatment options. Our specialist will work with you and your primary care physician to evaluate your condition and oversee your care.
Common issues treated by our team include:
- High cholesterol
- Paget's disease
- Kidney stones
- Thyroid problems, including thyroid cancer
- Pituitary problems
PacMed specializes in diabetes care. Our comprehensive Diabetes Management Program includes health, education and supportive resources. The endocrinologist can monitor your ongoing health and care plan. Diabetes is usually diagnosed by a simple blood sugar test and an evaluation of symptoms such as frequent urination, excessive thirst, weight loss and fatigue.
If you have high cholesterol, you could be at risk for heart disease or stroke. Your primary care provider will work with you to lower your cholesterol through diet or medications. If your cholesterol has not responded to the usual treatments, you may be referred to an endocrinologist. Our Endocrinology team can research and recommend different or additional medications and track your progress.
