Refractive Lensectomy

Choosing your Doctor

With its basis in the proven techniques of cataract surgery, refractive lensectomy also known as Clear Lens Extraction is a procedure that replaces the natural lens of the eye with an intraocular lens, thus reducing the need for glasses or contact lenses.

Refractive Lensectomy is typically a brief procedure in which your lens is gently removed and replaced with a clear artificial lens. Dr. Patel is experienced in state-of-the-art small incision, sutureless lens extraction using the technique of phacoemulsification, in which your lens is removed through a microscopic incision.

Here is a cross sectional diagram of an eye. See how the light is being focused by the lens, which is similar to how a camera functions.

Phacoemulsification breaks your lens up into tiny pieces prior to removal.

We use top quality foldable lenses. This lens is unfolding as it comes out of a special lens inserter.

Are there any risks with clear lens extraction?

All surgery has some risk. However, cataract surgery is a low risk procedure. You will have the opportunity to meet Dr. Patel prior to your surgery to discuss the procedure and your individual needs and issues.
