Choosing your Doctor

Dr. Niraj Patel, MD, FACS is a fellowship trained corneal and refractive surgery specialist who has been in private practice at Pacific Medical Centers since 2001.  He currently serves as Co-Director of the Ophthalmology Department and has dedicated his practice to refractive surgery, cataract, and corneal diseases in addition to his work in general ophthalmology.  Involved with refractive surgery since 1995, Dr. Patel has extensive experience with Laser Vision Correction (LASIK and PRK) involving thousands of cases.  He was the first surgeon in Western Washington to be certified for the Visian Implantable Contact Lens (ICL).

He has lectured and taught residents and physicians from across the nation and has been involved in numerous research projects in the fields of cornea and refractive surgery.

A Phi Beta Kappa high honors graduate from the University of Michigan, Dr. Patel went on to receive his medical degree with Alpha Omega Alpha Honors from the University of Michigan Medical School.  He then completed an ophthalmology residency at the world renowned Wills Eye Hospital in Philadelphia, followed by a prestigious fellowship in Corneal and Refractive Surgery at the University of Utah’s John Moran Eye Center.  Prior to joining the Pacific Medical team, Dr. Patel practiced in San Francisco and had an appointment as an Assistant Clinical Professor of Ophthalmology at the California Pacific Medical Center.

Dr. Patel is board certified in ophthalmology and maintains professional membership in the American Academy of Ophthalmology, American College of Surgeons, American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery, Washington Academy of Eye Physicians, Washington State Medical Society, and King County Medical Society.  In addition to his clinical duties, Dr. Patel serves on the Board of Directors for Pacific Medical Centers and on the Medical Executive Committee of the Seattle Surgery Center.  Dr. Patel has also been elected as the Treasurer/Secretary of the Washington Academy of Eye Physicians, the state ophthalmology society.

Dr. Patel loves living in the Pacific Northwest with his wife and two children.  He also enjoys golfing, hiking, and traveling in his free time.
