IMPLANTABLE COLLAMER LENS (VISIAN ICLTM) PATIENT EXPERIENCES “After several consultations with different eye care professionals, the consensus appeared unanimous: My eyesight was too poor for LASIK, and there were few options for me, if any. As a last resort, an ophthalmologist referred me to Dr. Patel. I was told that he was the best in the region, if the not the nation, and if there were any hope for better vision, he would be the one to provide it. Dr. Patel met me immediately, and I was impressed by his warm demeanor, confidence, and knowledge. Dr. Patel discussed a refractive lensectomy and was clear about the risks and drawbacks. Thereafter, he was available on a daily basis and answered my questions promptly, sending relevant published research to help me make my decision in my own time. In the end, I decided against refractive lensectomy due to the loss of accommodation which Dr. Patel described clearly from the beginning. However, several months later he contacted me to inform me that a new procedure called Visian ICLTM had been FDA approved. Loss of accommodation was not an issue with this procedure, and again, Dr. Patel met with me promptly, and took much time and care with me in covering the risks, potential benefits, and available research. I proceeded without any doubt this time. During each contact with him and his staff, all exhibited the highest degree of professionalism, warmth, and attentiveness I have encountered in the healthcare profession. The procedures for both eyes were executed quickly, smoothly, and without discomfort whatsoever; I now have perfect vision without glasses or contacts. My experience with Dr. Patel at the surgery center was relaxing, and positive in every possible way. |
