Non-urgent visits being rescheduled due to COVID-19
March 17, 2020
In response to the COVID-19 outbreak, to protect both patients and limited health care resources, PacMed is rescheduling or cancelling many non-urgent medical visits. Where possible, other visits may be moved to online/telephone formats. These changes are being made to reduce potential viral exposure in accordance with public health recommendations, and to make sure our limited health resources can be directed to patients with the most urgent medical need.
You may receive a call regarding your currently scheduled appointment. Depending on your situation, we may reschedule you for late May/early June, we may ask if you are able to accommodate a virtual online visit or a phone visit, or we may cancel your visit and ask you to reschedule with us later.
Visit types we are currently rescheduling include:
- Medicare Wellness Exams
- Well-Child Checks
- Some screening/diagnostic studies
- All elective/non-emergent surgical procedures
If your scheduled visit needs to be rescheduled, we will contact you. We will attempt to reach you through the channels you have approved for us to communicate with you, so please check wherever you normally receive messages from PacMed, including MyChart, phone/voicemail or other channels.
We are evaluating potential visit changes based on patients' medical needs. It may be best to keep your currently scheduled appointment, but not necessary for you to see the doctor in person. In these cases, we will attempt to move your appointment to a virtual or phone appointment.
If you are a candidate for a virtual/phone visit, we will share options and instructions with you for one of the following formats:
- MyChart visit
- Zoom virtual visit
- Telephone visit
Again, please check for a communication from us regarding a potential change in visit venue, wherever you usually receive messages from PacMed (voicemail, MyChart, etc.).
During the COVID-19 outbreak, we are not performing routine immunizations. If you are currently scheduled for a shot or immunization, these will be canceled. Please contact us after the COVID-19 outbreak to reschedule.
NOTE: PacMed is now testing registered patients for COVID-19. For more details, visit our COVID-19 Testing page.
If you are considering a new appointment but know your need is not urgent, we ask that you delay in calling, and reach out to us for scheduling only after the current crisis has passed. If you are seeking a new appointment and have questions whether your medical needs qualify as urgent, please call our normal scheduling line for assistance – 1.888.4PACMED (1.888.472.2633).
We are aware this is an unprecedented step, and it is only taken because of the unprecedented scale and risk of the COVID-19 outbreak. We need to prioritize care for those facing COVID-19 and other critical medical needs. Reducing non-urgent visits at this time will reduce your potential exposure to the virus, and help our community slow its spread. It will also help us alleviate the burden on medical staff, who face the highest exposure to coronavirus and who are working longer shifts as some coworkers are directed to self-quarantine due COVID-19 exposure and/or diagnosis.
Thank you for your understanding and partnership in meeting the challenge of coronavirus together as a community.
