Geriatric Medicine

Geriatric medicine is a branch of medicine concerned with the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of disorders that occur in older people. Geriatricians recognize that aging is not an illness. Rather, it is a time where quality of life and functional ability can be maintained with proper care, and health and happiness are encouraged.

Pacific Medical Centers, our family medicine and internal medicine physicians who are specially trained in geriatrics are committed to promoting health and preventing disease in older patients. The high quality care they provide can help manage the unique and often multiple health concerns of older adults who may not react to illness and disease the same way younger adults do.

Our physicians understand the wide range of physical, mental, medical, social, and spiritual issues that older adults can have. They are trained to watch for the ways in which these problems can combine to prevent an older person from enjoying life to its fullest. Today, the number of people aged 65 and older is larger than ever before, and those aged 85 and older constitute the fastest growing segment of the population. At Pacific Medical Centers we’re committed to helping our older patients make the most of life.
